In response to US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan to end the Gaza war, the Hamas movement announced that it agrees to the exchange of all Israeli prisoners based on the proposed formula and is ready to immediately begin negotiations through mediators.
This response, prepared after internal consultations and with other Palestinian factions, has created an opportunity for diplomatic progress after two years of conflict.
Hamas stressed that it is ready to hand over the administration of Gaza to an independent body of Palestinian technocrats formed on the basis of a national agreement and with Arab-Islamic support.
However, Hamas announced its main conditions as a complete cessation of hostilities, the unconditional withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, and the prevention of any occupation or displacement of the Palestinian population.
Benjamin Netanyahu’s office also announced that Israel is ready to immediately implement the first phase of the plan to release prisoners, although the details of the withdrawal of forces and the disarmament of Hamas still need to be negotiated.
