US Secretary of State welcomes Amir Amiri’s release from Islamic Emirate prison

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the release and return of Amir Amiri, an American citizen who was imprisoned in Afghanistan.

Rubio appreciated Qatar’s mediation in Amiri’s release and considered this cooperation an example of the need for global efforts to resolve sensitive diplomatic issues.

He wrote on his X-Page: “Today we welcome the return of Amir Amiri; we will not rest until all American citizens wrongfully detained abroad are returned home.”

It is worth noting that Amiri’s arrest had created tensions between Washington and the Islamic Emirate in recent months.

Political analysts see his release as an important step towards reducing tensions and improving relations between the two sides.

Previously, former US envoy for Afghan peace Zalmay Khalilzad had also confirmed Amiri’s release and called it a positive step.

He expressed hope that the issues related to other detained American citizens would also be resolved fully and transparently.
