Germany to complete Afghan refugee resettlement by end of 2025; Britain limits family reunification route

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadful announced that the resettlement process for Afghan refugees with acceptance approval will be completed by the end of 2025.

He said there were currently 2,100 people in Pakistan and 200 in Afghanistan who had received official German admission letters waiting to be transferred.

Wadfull stressed that Germany is committed to supporting people who have collaborated with the country.

He added: “Security checks are being carried out to ensure that these individuals pose no threat; this process is time-consuming and has created problems in Pakistan, but this issue will be resolved by the end of the year.”

Meanwhile, the UK Home Office has suspended new applications for refugee family reunification from September 1, 2025, until April 2026.

The decision has been met with strong criticism from human rights organizations, who have called it inhumane and warned that the move will push separated families into the hands of human traffickers.
