Deadly explosion in Quetta, Pakistan, kills 14, injures 35
A bomb exploded in the city of Quetta, the capital of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, on Wednesday morning, killing at least 14 people and wounding 35 others.
According to Pakistani media reports, the explosion, which some local sources have described as a suicide attack, occurred in the crowded Shahwani Stadium area during a gathering of the Balochistan National Party to mark the fourth anniversary of the death of Sardar Attaullah Mangal.
Balochistan Health Minister Bakht Muhammad announced that the condition of some of the injured is critical and that the number of victims is likely to increase.
The intensity of the explosion was such that it damaged dozens of cars at the scene.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but groups such as the Pakistani Taliban and Baloch separatists have carried out similar attacks in the area in the past.
Security and rescue forces have been dispatched to the scene of the incident, and investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators of the attack.
The explosion has heightened concerns about increasing insecurity in Balochistan.
