The death toll from the deadly earthquake in the east of the country has reached 1,124 dead and 3,251 injured
The Afghan Red Crescent Society announced that the number of victims of the 6.0-magnitude earthquake that shook the eastern part of the country on Sunday evening has reached 1,124 dead and 3,251 injured.
The organization reported on its official page on the X social network that more than 8,000 residential houses have been completely or partially destroyed, especially in Kunar province.
Rescue teams are still working in the mountainous areas of Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, and Nuristan provinces to search and rescue people trapped under the rubble.
Due to the shallow depth of the earthquake, 8 to 10 kilometers, and poor construction in these areas, extensive damage has been caused to infrastructure and residential homes.
Local authorities have warned that the death toll is likely to rise as mountain roads remain blocked and rescue operations continue.
It is worth noting that this earthquake is considered one of the deadliest natural disasters in Afghanistan in recent years.
