Deadly earthquake in Kunar kills 250, injures 500
The Kunar Provincial Disaster Management Authority announced in a press release that last night’s deadly earthquake in the districts of Nur Gul, Suki, Tapur Manogi and Chapa Dara has so far left 250 dead and 500 injured.
Local officials stated that rescue operations are continuing with difficulty due to the difficult access to the affected areas and the closure of some roads, and the final death toll is not yet known.
Rescue teams from the center and neighboring provinces have been dispatched to the earthquake-stricken areas, and efforts are underway to rescue people trapped under the rubble.
This earthquake, which according to international sources had a magnitude of 6 on the Richter scale, occurred at midnight on Sunday 30th of August and its epicenter was reported to be near Dara Noor district.
Authorities have appealed for help from international agencies because local resources are limited to deliver relief to remote areas.
