UN Security Council to hold quarterly meeting on Afghanistan

The United Nations Security Council will hold its quarterly open meeting on the situation in the country in September 2025.

According to the independent analytical organization Security Council Report, Roza Otunbayeva, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), is expected to present a report at the meeting, along with a civil society representative and Volker Turk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

This meeting will be Otunbayeva’s last opportunity to report to the Security Council before her mandate ends in September 2025.

According to information released, after the public meeting, closed consultations have also been planned to examine issues related to Afghanistan in more depth.
