Intense clashes in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, following attempts to arrest Lahore Sheikh Jangi

Local Iraqi sources have reported heavy clashes around the Laleh Zar Hotel in Sulaymaniyah, the residence of Sheikh Jangi, the leader of the Popular Front party.

These clashes began after security forces attempted to execute an arrest warrant issued by the Sulaymaniyah Court against Sheikh Jangi on charges of causing chaos and tension.

According to Iraqi media reports, the Sulaymaniyah police have announced that they will take action to implement the court’s ruling.

At the same time, the roads leading to the city of Sulaymaniyah are witnessing a large presence of security forces and the city’s entrances are closed.

Reports also indicate drones flying in the sky of this area.

Kurdistan Regional Government President Nechirvan Barzani has expressed concern about the tensions and called for an end to the clashes and the resolution of disputes through legal channels.
