Rosatom announces strengthening nuclear cooperation with China and India
Alexei Likhachev, CEO of the state-owned Rosatom Corporation, announced on Wednesday (20th of August) that given the current geopolitical situation and emerging threats, it is necessary to strengthen Russia’s nuclear shield in the coming years.
He also announced the imminent expansion of the country’s nuclear cooperation with China and India.
According to Tass, Likhachev, on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, referred to Moscow’s good relations with Beijing and New Delhi and stated that Russia is negotiating to build six new nuclear power plant units in India, and cooperation with China on the Tianwan and Shudapu power plant projects is continuing.
He added that the cooperation includes the construction of advanced 1200-VVER nuclear power plants, as well as innovative projects such as small modular reactors.
In China, Units 7 and 8 of the Tianwan Power Plant and Units 3 and 4 of the Shudapu Power Plant are under construction in cooperation with the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).
In India, the Kudankulam power plant is being developed with six units, and negotiations are underway to build new power plants.
