Pakistan flood death toll rises to 300; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa declares national mourning

The death toll from devastating floods in northern Pakistan has risen to more than 300, Reuters reported, citing local officials.

These floods, which began in late June 2025 due to heavy monsoon rains and river flooding, have caused widespread damage and destroyed hundreds of homes, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to reports, 307 people have lost their lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province alone, including 279 men, 15 women, and 13 children.

The Buner region has suffered the most casualties with 184 deaths; 35 people are still missing and search and rescue operations are ongoing.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government has declared a day of national mourning due to the severity of the disaster, and the country’s national flag has been flown at half-mast.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered the acceleration of relief and rescue operations and the provision of essential items such as tents, medicine, and food.
