Joint statement by EU leaders in support of Trump’s efforts for peace in Ukraine

In a joint statement, EU leaders welcomed US President Donald Trump’s efforts to end the bloodshed in Ukraine and achieve a just and lasting peace.

The statement, signed by leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, European Council President Antonio Costa, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, emphasizes the need to protect the security interests of Ukraine and Europe.

In this statement, European leaders announced that they are ready to work with Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to hold a trilateral meeting with representatives of the United States, Russia, and Ukraine to advance peace negotiations with European support.

They emphasized that Ukraine must receive solid security guarantees so that it can defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

European leaders also referred to the recent talks between Trump and Putin in Alaska, which were held without Zelensky’s presence, and stated that any diplomatic solution must involve Ukraine and that the path to peace is not possible without Kiev.

They emphasized adherence to the principle of non-change of international borders by force and considered the current line of contact between Ukraine and Russia as the starting point for negotiations.

This statement was released while Zelensky also supported it and emphasized that Ukraine will not cede its territory to the occupiers.

He has called for solutions that guarantee real peace.

The European Union also announced that pressure on Russia through sanctions and economic measures will continue until a just peace is achieved.
