Trump disappointed with Putin, Ukraine ceasefire deadline depends on Putin himself

US President Donald Trump, in response to a question about the deadline set for Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine, which expires today (August 8, 2025), stated, “The ceasefire deadline depends on itself. [I] am very disappointed.”

The remarks came as negotiations to end the three-and-a-half-year war in Ukraine have made no progress and Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities continue.

Trump had previously set a 50-day deadline for a ceasefire, which he later reduced to 10 or 12 days, and threatened to impose severe sanctions on Russia and countries that buy its oil if an agreement is not reached.

However, sources close to the Kremlin have stated that Putin is reluctant to accept this deadline due to the progress of Russian forces on the war fronts.

As the deadline approaches, negotiations between American and Russian officials are expected to continue until the end of today, but the prospects for an agreement remain unclear.
