First accusation of genocide against Israel by domestic human rights groups
Two Israeli human rights organizations, B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights Israel, in an unprecedented move, accused the Israeli government of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
The accusation, which Reuters described as “breaking a taboo,” was made at a press conference in Jerusalem on Monday.
These organizations claimed in their reports that Israel was carrying out a coordinated and deliberate action to destroy the Palestinian community in the Gaza Strip.
This accusation is the strongest criticism leveled by domestic groups against the Israeli government, whose officials have called the claims “anti-Semitic” and categorically rejected them.
Sarit Mikhaili, B’Tselem’s international director, acknowledged the risks of making such accusations, stating: “We have examined all the legal risks to media and social media credibility and have worked to mitigate them.”
This development comes as tensions in the region continue to rise, and the allegations raised may spark broader debates domestically and internationally.
