Syria to hold first parliamentary elections under new government in September 2025
According to the Syrian state news agency (SANA), the head of the Syrian Election Commission, Muhammad Taha, announced that the country’s first parliamentary elections after the formation of the new government will be held between September 15 and 20, 2025.
These elections will be held to elect 210 members of the Syrian House of Representatives and, according to Taha, will be held under the supervision of international observers.
Candidates will also have the opportunity to object to the lists and election results.
This is the first parliamentary election after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime and the formation of a transitional government led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, Abu Muhammad al-Julani, the former head of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, which was formed on March 29, 2025.
The event is seen as an important step towards Syria’s political reconstruction after years of civil war and instability, but some analysts have expressed doubts about the transparency and independence of the process.
