Türkiye warns of action if Syria is divided
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced in a joint press conference with his Salvadoran counterpart in Ankara that Turkey considers any attempt to divide Syria as a direct threat to its national security and will react if necessary.
Fidan warned against foreign intervention, referring to recent developments in southern Syria, especially the intense clashes in the province of Sweida, which resulted in the deaths of more than 900 people, mostly civilians.
Accusing Israel of trying to divide Syria, he considered the regime’s attacks on the positions of the Golani forces and the military convoys of Arab tribes in Sweida to be a factor in escalating instability in the country.
The Turkish Foreign Minister, emphasizing his country’s support for the unity and territorial integrity of Syria, stated that the international community wants a Syria free of terrorism, but Israel’s actions threaten this goal.
These statements come at a time when last week the Israeli regime, claiming to support the Druze minority, targeted positions of the Syrian interim government, including the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense.
