Drone attack on Sarsang oil field in Iraqi Kurdistan region

According to news sources, on Tuesday (15 July), two drones hit the Sarsang oil field in the Dohuk province of the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

The oil field, which is operated by the American company HKN Energy, caught fire following the attack and oil production has completely stopped.

According to a statement from HKN Energy, the incident occurred at around 7 a.m. local time and firefighters have largely contained the fire.

However, production operations have been suspended until the damaged facilities are fully secured.

The Ministry of Natural Resources of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq described the attack as a terrorist act against the region’s vital economic infrastructure and announced that the explosion was caused by drones carrying explosives.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, and investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators.
