The Israeli parliament was not dissolved
While some hardline parties had threatened to support the dissolution of the Israeli parliament, the failure of the majority of Orthodox representatives to support this plan has, for the time being, saved Netanyahu’s fragile coalition from collapse.
The motion to dissolve the Israeli parliament (Knesset) was rejected on Thursday by 61 votes against and 53 in favor and was not passed.
This plan was presented by the opposition with the aim of dissolving parliament and paving the way for early elections.
Despite threats from some ultra-Orthodox parties to support the plan, most representatives of this movement decided not to support it.
According to Israeli parliamentary rules, the opposition must now wait six months before they can submit a similar proposal again.
Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition, formed in December 2022, is considered one of the most right-wing governments in the history of the Zionist regime and includes two religious extremist parties, Shas and United Torah Judaism.
