US cancels Chinese student visas

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that the United States will begin revoking visas for Chinese students, including those with ties to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in sensitive fields.

Reuters quoted Rubio as saying: “The US State Department will work with the Department of Homeland Security to aggressively cancel Chinese student visas.”

According to Reuters, the number of Chinese students in the United States has fallen from about 370,000 in 2019 to about 277,000 in 2024, largely due to rising tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

The visa cancellation and increased deportations from the United States are part of President Trump’s administration’s broader efforts to implement strict immigration policies.
