Italian Prime Minister Vatican wants to host Ukraine peace talks

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in a statement on Tuesday that Pope Leo Tide told her in a call that the Vatican is ready to host the next round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

“Having received confirmation from the Pope that he is ready to host further talks between the parties at the Vatican, the Prime Minister deeply thanked Pope Leo XIV for his unwavering commitment to peace,” he said in a statement, according to a Reuters report.

Following Monday’s call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ms. Maloney’s office announced that she welcomes Trump’s statement that Pope Leo is interested in hosting talks between Kiev and Moscow.

But the Vatican has not made an official comment on this so far.

It should be remembered that Pope Leo said in a speech on May 14 that the Vatican can act as a mediator in world conflicts without specifically mentioning Ukraine and Russia.
