The presidential election in Belarus started today, Sunday 26th of January, with the competition of Alexander Lukashenko, the current 70-year-old president, who has been in power since 1994, and four other candidates at 8:00 a.m. local time today.
According to the announcement of the Central Election Commission of Belarus, about 6.9 million people are eligible to participate in the elections and the voting will end at 8:00.
