South Korean President Lee Jae-myung called for the start of talks with North Korea for peaceful coexistence and replacing the current ceasefire with a “peace regime” on the Korean Peninsula.
He said the two Koreas should enter into dialogue to end the 1950-1953 war, which ended only with a ceasefire.
Lee also said Seoul is ready to take steps to reduce tensions and establish mechanisms to prevent conflict, and to discuss ways to curb Pyongyang’s nuclear capabilities.
Relations between the two Koreas remain tense. North Korea has rejected offers of dialogue from Seoul and called joint US-South Korean exercises provocative.
