The United Nations has announced that more than 40 people have been killed, dozens injured, and several others missing following heavy rains and flash floods in eastern Afghanistan.
UN Secretary-General’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said the floods had caused widespread damage to residential homes, government buildings and commercial centers, and search and rescue operations were continuing.
According to him, the United Nations and humanitarian partners are assessing the damage and preparing emergency aid, and shelter, food, health services, basic necessities, and psychological support are among the most important needs of the affected people.
Dujarric also announced the dispatch of mobile health teams to transport medical equipment and food to the affected areas, adding that the destruction of roads and geographical difficulties have challenged the relief process.
