UN Security Council to hold public meeting on Afghanistan in December
The United Nations Security Council announced that it will hold its quarterly open meeting on the situation in Afghanistan in December of this year.
The meeting will be attended by Ms. Georget Ganyon, Deputy Secretary-General and current Acting Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), a senior official from the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as well as a representative or representatives of Afghan civil society.
At the same time, the Security Council plans to adopt a resolution on the recent tensions and conflicts between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The draft resolution calls on the two countries to refrain from any further military action and to exercise restraint.
UN sources have also reported that before the public meeting, Security Council members will hold an informal consultative meeting to receive more detailed information from UN officials about the nature of these conflicts and their regional implications.
