Ukrainian drone attack on Russian-controlled oil base in Luhansk
On the evening of Thursday, September 4, 2025, a key oil base in the city of Luhansk, located in the Russian-controlled region, was targeted by a Ukrainian drone attack.
The base, which supplied fuel to Russian military forces, caught fire after the attack.
Local Telegram channels reported that explosions occurred near the facility after 9:00 a.m. local time and that black columns of smoke were seen in the sky in the area.
No exact information has yet been released on the extent of damage or possible casualties, and the Ukrainian military has not officially commented on the attack.
The attack is part of Ukraine’s strategy to target Russian oil infrastructure, which has intensified since the beginning of 2024 and has so far carried out more than 60 drone attacks on Russian refineries and oil tanks.
The operation reflects Ukraine’s continued efforts to disrupt the fuel supply chain for Russian forces and weaken the country’s oil-dependent economy.
