US vetoes draft UN Security Council resolution calling for immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza
In the Security Council meeting, 14 out of 15 Security Council members voted in favor of this resolution, but the United States, a permanent member with rights in the council, voted against this resolution.
US Representative Dorothy Shea told council members at a meeting of the Security Council on Wednesday before the vote that the resolution undermines US-led efforts to broker a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, British Ambassador to the United Nations Barbara Woodward described Israel’s decisions to expand military operations in Gaza and severely restrict humanitarian aid as “unjustifiable” at a Security Council meeting.
