The Washington Post reported, citing four sources familiar with the matter, that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to hire 5,000 new employees by the end of this year to support the deportation process.

The new hires will work as “deportation officers” and will be involved in detaining immigrants and processing immigration cases.
According to the report, the number of ICE employees has increased by about 8,000 since the beginning of Donald Trump’s presidency, reaching 29,000 by July; this trend continues even as the Trump administration emphasizes increasing detention and deportation of immigrants.
