Chinese President Xi Jinping said in a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington that Beijing and Washington should strengthen their dialogue and cooperation and avoid confrontation between the two countries.
Xi Jinping considered China-US relations important for both countries and global progress, saying that frank, in-depth and sustained dialogue can help enhance mutual understanding and trust; he also emphasized the establishment of permanent channels of communication between the armed forces of the two countries to manage tensions.
The Chinese President also called for expanding trade, economic, and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries, and cited increasing direct flights and bilateral communications as areas of cooperation.
In another part of his speech, Xi Jinping called on the United States and Iran to return to the path of resolving issues through negotiations as soon as possible and expressed hope that Tehran and Washington would reach an agreement on disputed issues, including the nuclear issue.
Donald Trump also described his relationship with Xi Jinping as a strong friendship and said that the two sides had made progress on various issues, including trade, technology security and artificial intelligence; he also spoke of efforts to create a more balanced trade relationship between the two countries.
