The Guardian newspaper reported that the invasion of Iran has cost the United States at least $38 billion and has significantly reduced the country’s missile defense stockpiles, which could take up to five years to rebuild.
According to the report, the United States has spent $22.3 billion on ammunition alone as of June 30; the ongoing conflicts have also exposed strategic shortages in weapons stockpiles and the limitations of the US industrial capacity to replenish ammunition.
The Guardian added that Iranian attacks have damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings and structures at US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman and Jordan.
The US Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has also estimated that as the war continues, US spending will increase by about $3 billion for each additional month, depending on the intensity of the conflict. The institution has also said that the war has increased inflation in the US.
