UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed deep concern over the escalation of border and military conflicts between Afghanistan and Pakistan and called on the conflicting parties to resolve their differences through dialogue and diplomacy.
Speaking to reporters, Stephane Dujarric, the Secretary-General’s spokesman, emphasized that Guterres is following recent developments with concern and calls on the two countries to adhere to their obligations under international law and prioritize the protection of civilian lives.
This UN position comes at a time when border tensions have reached a peak in recent days, including Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan soil and retaliatory operations by Islamic Emirate forces.
The UN Secretary-General had previously emphasized the need for restraint, reducing tensions, and returning to the path of dialogue.
