In an interview with Fox News, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, supported Donald Trump’s recent deadlines against Iran, saying, “The urgency set by President Trump is the right thing to do.”
Grossi stressed that for any agreement with Iran, the organization’s inspections of the damaged nuclear facilities (Ford, Natanz and Isfahan after the US attacks in July) are essential to ensure that no diversion of sensitive materials close to weapons grade has occurred.
He added: “We will either have a comprehensive agreement that covers all aspects, including full inspections, or there will be no agreement at all.” Grossi considered diplomacy “the preferred option,” but stated that the condition for its realization was immediate and comprehensive access by the organization’s inspectors to Iranian facilities.
These statements came hours after Trump’s claim that it would be clear within 15 days whether we would reach an agreement with Iran or not, and indicate the organization’s relative alignment with Washington’s maximum pressure approach.
