The Wall Street Journal reported, citing three American officials, that the Department of Defense (Pentagon) has ordered the Second Fleet to be on standby for deployment to the West Asia-Middle East region.
The newspaper wrote that an official order to move has not yet been issued, but it is expected that US President Donald Trump will sign the official order to prepare and move the fleet in the coming hours.
American officials emphasized that if ordered, the fleet would begin moving toward the region within the next two weeks.
According to published information, the second fleet group in question is the aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush, which is currently stationed off the coast of Virginia.
This action comes at a time when the US First Fleet is already present in the region and the increase in US military presence in the Middle East is being carried out in the context of ongoing regional tensions.
