According to reports published on Wednesday evening, American forces stationed in Syria completely evacuated the strategic Al-Tanf base and retreated towards Jordan.
A Syrian military source told AFP: “American forces completely withdrew from the Al-Tanf base today and retreated towards the Al-Burj base in Jordanian territory.”
Another source in the Syrian army told the same news agency that the process of evacuating and transferring troops began about 15 days ago and ended today.
The Al-Tanf base is located in a strategic area in the border triangle of Syria, Jordan, and Iraq, and was established as the main center of operations for the US-led coalition against ISIS since 2014.
This withdrawal comes at a time when the US military presence in eastern Syria has faced widespread criticism from the Syrian government and some resistance groups in recent years.
