Death toll in Russia-Ukraine war nears 2 million people arrived
An American research institute announced in its latest report that the total casualties of Russian and Ukrainian military forces during the nearly four years of war, including those killed, wounded, and missing, have reached nearly 2 million people.
The report, which is based on an analysis of intelligence data, satellite imagery, field reports, and open sources, shows that heavy casualties on both sides on various fronts, especially in the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine, far exceed the official statistics announced by Moscow and Kiev.
The organization emphasized that this figure includes active military forces of both countries and does not include civilian casualties.
The exact number of casualties in this war remains disputed due to limited access to information and the secrecy of military statistics, but independent Western reports and some Russian sources also report a sharp increase in casualties.
The Russia-Ukraine war, which began in February 2022, is considered one of the bloodiest military conflicts in Europe since World War II.
