The killing of a 37-year-old American woman by immigration officers in Minneapolis
A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) trooper shot and killed a 37-year-old American woman named Renee Nicole Goode, a mother of one, in her car in south Minneapolis on Wednesday (January 7, 2026), during a massive operation to enforce immigration laws by the Trump administration.
The federal government and the US president also described the soldier’s action as self-defense.
US Secretary of the Interior Christie Noem announced that the murdered woman had tried to run over soldiers with a car, calling the act “domestic terrorism.”
After watching the video of the incident, Trump wrote on social media that the soldier shot to save his life.
In return local officials in Minneapolis and the state of Minnesota rejected the government’s narrative.
The incident led to widespread protests in Minneapolis that spread to New York, Chicago, and Seattle. Minneapolis schools were closed for the rest of the week, and thousands of people gathered at the scene.
