UN Deputy Secretary-General expresses concern over the situation of women’s rights in Afghanistan

UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammad expressed deep concern about the human rights situation of women and girls in Afghanistan, writing on her X-Page: “Millions of women and girls in Afghanistan face severe restrictions on their fundamental rights, including education, work, security, and freedom of movement.”

He emphasized that the international community should not ignore this situation.

In contrast, the authorities of the Islamic Emirate have rejected these concerns and have repeatedly emphasized that Afghan women enjoy all their religious rights in accordance with Islamic law and live a dignified and honorable life.

According to Islamic Emirate officials, the six-article decree of the leadership of the Islamic Emirate guarantees the Sharia rights of women and obliges influential ethnic officials, religious scholars, and elders to commit to these rights.

Islamic Emirate officials have also announced that restrictions on girls’ education beyond the sixth grade will be lifted once suitable conditions are provided.
