Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, strongly condemned Donald Trump’s interventionist and inflammatory statements in a letter to the Secretary-General and the rotating President of the Security Council.
Referring to Trump’s threat of US intervention in the event of violent suppression of protests in Iran, the letter emphasizes the inherent right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, national security, and the protection of its people against any foreign intervention.
The Iranian representative stated that his country will exercise its rights decisively and proportionately, and that the United States bears full responsibility for any consequences resulting from these illegal threats and the subsequent escalation of tensions.
This diplomatic move by Iran was made in response to Trump’s recent tweet in which he threatened to “rescue” Iranian protesters in the event of government violence.
