Libyan army chief of staff killed in plane crash near Ankara
General Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad, the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army, died along with four other senior military officials in a plane crash near the city of Haymana, south of the Turkish capital, Ankara.
In a statement on his page, Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid al-Dabiba confirmed the death of al-Haddad and his companions, calling the incident a great loss and irreparable damage to the country, the military institutions, and the Libyan people.
In this event, General Al-Fitouri Gharibil (Chief of Staff of the (Ground) Forces), Mahmoud Al-Qatawi, Director of Military Industries, Muhammad Al-Asawi Diab, Advisor to the Chief of General Staff, and Muhammad Omar Ahmed Mahjoub, photographer of the Chief of General Staff’s media office, also died.
Al-Haddad had traveled to Ankara at the official invitation of Turkish authorities to meet with his counterparts, and the Falcon 50 plane carrying the Libyan delegation lost contact and crashed minutes after taking off from Ankara’s Esenboga Airport
