Gunman attacks Hanukkah party on Sydney’s Bondi Beach father and son assailants

Reuters and other reputable media outlets have reported that two armed assailants attacked a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son at a Hanukkah celebration, the Jewish festival of lights, on Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach.

The attack, which targeted Australia’s Jewish community, left at least 15 people dead, 16 in total, including the attacker’s father who was killed by police, and injured about 40 people, including two police officers.

Australian police announced that the attacker’s father was killed at the scene by security forces and his son was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The exact identities of the attackers have not been revealed, but the father has had a legal gun license since 2015 and has several registered weapons.

Authorities stressed that only two attackers were involved and there was no third party.

The attack occurred as about 1,000 people gathered at a beachside park to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah.
