Afghan Foreign Ministry welcomes Iranian Foreign Minister’s emphasis on regional connectivity opportunities

Zakir Jalali, the second political director of the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed the speech of Iranian Foreign Minister Sayed Abbas Araqchi at the meeting of special representatives of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries in Tehran and considered it worthy of appreciation.

Jalali wrote in a post on his X page that moving beyond purely security-oriented approaches and focusing on Afghanistan’s constructive role in regional connectivity and integration is an important point.

He emphasized that before 2021, Afghanistan had become a security problem for the region with foreign military presence and interventions, but today, with a strong geopolitical position, goodwill, and an economy-oriented foreign policy, it can become an effective bridge between Central Asia, West Asia, and South Asia.

According to Jalali, regional countries can exploit Afghanistan’s trade and connectivity transit capacities, which will ensure common interests and strengthen regional integration.

He added that over the past four years, practical steps have been taken in the areas of transit, trade facilitation, and expansion of economic cooperation, and that engagement with Afghanistan should be based on opportunities, field realities, and existing capacities.

Jalali noted that utilizing the region’s potential capacities can lead to a sustainable win-win situation for all parties.

This reaction comes at a time when the Iranian Foreign Minister, at the Tehran meeting, emphasized Afghanistan’s comprehensive integration into regional equations, its key role in energy transit and trade, and the need for regional cooperation without foreign interference.
