Humans face fateful decision about AI by 2030, warns top anthropic scientist

Jared Keelan, chief scientist at Entropic, warned that humanity will face a critical decision between 2027 and 2030: allowing automated training of AI models, which could lead to an “intelligence explosion and the emergence of AGI.”

Keelan called this choice the “ultimate” risk, adding that in the optimistic scenario, there will be huge scientific and medical advances, but in the most pessimistic case, human control over technology will be lost, and an uncertain and frightening future will lie ahead.

He agrees with warnings from Jeffrey Hinton, one of the godfathers of AI), Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Dario Amodei, CEO of Entropy, about the dangers of AI and widespread job loss, predicting that within the next two to three years, most office work will be done by AI.

However, Kaplan considered it unlikely that the technology would stop advancing and emphasized that artificial intelligence will continue to improve.
