Diplomatic sources reported that the White House has begun intensive efforts in recent days to finalize a gas export agreement between the Israeli regime and Egypt ahead of Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned visit to the United States.
The Hebrew-language newspaper Ma’ariv quoted American officials as saying that Washington’s main condition for holding an official meeting between Netanyahu and Donald Trump is the signing of this gas agreement, an agreement that, according to sources, in addition to significant economic benefits for both sides, will have important political consequences for strengthening Tel Aviv-Cairo relations as well as Washington’s position in the region.
These efforts come as the new US administration seeks to resume its active mediation role in the Middle East and use energy as a lever to strengthen regional alliances.
