Pakistan resumes UN humanitarian aid to Afghanistan after two months of transit suspension

After nearly two months of complete suspension of trade and transit with Afghanistan, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry issued a limited clearance permit for UN humanitarian shipments, Pakistani media reported.

This measure is considered the first step towards the partial reopening of border ports, and in the first phase, 143 containers belonging to the World Food Program (WFP), UNICEF, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) have been allowed to pass through the Chaman and Torkham ports.

– 67 food containers (WFP)

74 containers of equipment and aid for children (UNICEF)

– 2 containers of health supplies and family services (UNFPA)

The clearance of these shipments will be carried out in three stages: food, spices, and medical equipment, then educational materials.

Pakistan has suspended all Afghan customs and transit operations at the ports of Torkham, Chaman Ghulam Khan, Kharlachi and Angur-e-Ada since October 12.

Currently, about 495 cargo vehicles (412 vehicles) are waiting to cross at Chaman and 83 vehicles at Torkham.
