First UN Security Council delegation to visit Syria in 14 years

A delegation of ambassadors and representatives of the member states of the United Nations Security Council arrived in Damascus, the capital of Syria, for the first time in 14 years on Thursday morning .

According to the official Syrian News Agency (SANA), members of the delegation met with Abu Muhammad al-Julani Ahmed al-Sharaa, the president of the Syrian interim government, at the People’s Palace immediately upon arrival.

During this two-day visit, the Security Council delegation will also hold talks with Asaad Al-Shaibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country’s interim government, civil society activists, members of the fact-finding committees for the events in Sahel and Sweida, and Najat Rushdi, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Syria.

The delegation visited the ruined area of ​​Jobar and then visited the historical sites of Old Damascus, including the Umayyad Grand Mosque, Medhat Pasha Bazaar, and Bab Touma.
