On Tuesday the United Nations General Assembly, by adopting two key resolutions, once again emphasized the organization’s historical responsibility towards the issue of Palestine and the occupied Golan Heights, and called for an immediate end to the occupation of Palestinian lands since 1967, a halt to the illegal settlements by the Zionist regime, and the full implementation of the two-state solution.
It also demanded an end to the occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights. The first resolution, entitled “The Status of the Occupied Golan Heights,” was adopted with 123 votes in favor, 7 against, and 44 abstentions.
This resolution explicitly called for an end to the Israeli occupation of this strategic region; the second resolution, “On the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem,” was adopted with broad support from 142 member states and insisted on an immediate end to the 57-year occupation of the Palestinian territories.
This text emphasizes the need for an immediate halt to illegal settlements, the protection of Palestinian civilians, and the full implementation of international humanitarian and humanitarian law.
