World AIDS Day | Afghanistan to register 300 new HIV cases by 2025

On the occasion of World AIDS Day (December 1), the Ministry of Public Health announced that in 2025, 300 new positive cases of HIV/AIDS have been identified and registered across the country.

Ministry officials expressed concern about the increasing trend of infections and emphasized that poverty, low awareness of migration and return of migrants, and limited access to prevention and testing services continue to be the main factors contributing to the spread of this disease in Afghanistan.

According to statistics from the Joint United Nations Programme on AIDS (UNAIDS), at least 400 people have died from AIDS since the first case of HIV was recorded in Afghanistan in 1989.

The Ministry of Public Health urged people to visit health centers for voluntary testing and announced that HIV diagnosis and treatment services would be provided free of charge at all relevant centers.
