Iran officially announced its readiness to mediate to reduce tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan

The Iranian embassy in Kabul, quoting Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, announced that Tehran is fully prepared to reduce the recent differences and tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan and will welcome and use any efforts, initiatives, and mediation in this regard.

The Iranian embassy statement said that Tehran’s official position is a sign of the Islamic Republic’s serious will to contribute to regional stability and peacefully resolve disputes between neighbors.

Previously, Larijani had emphasized in an interview with a Pakistani media outlet that Iran is giving a “blank check” in resolving Islamabad’s disputes with Kabul and even with India, and does not place any restrictions on playing a constructive role.

These statements come as relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have been severely strained in recent months due to border issues, accusations by the military regime in Islamabad of harboring armed groups, and border clashes.
