Islamabad calls Indian Defense Minister’s remarks on ‘returning Sindh to India’ ‘dangerous and provocative’
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday issued a strongly worded statement calling Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s remarks that “Sindh was originally part of India and may return to it” an “irresponsible, dangerous and unstable fantasy”.
Rajnath Singh had said at a rally on Saturday that borders are not fixed. Many Sindhi Hindus have never accepted the separation of Sindh province in 1947, and those with Sindhi roots and cultural belief in the Indus River “will always belong to India, regardless of where they live today.”
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry called on India to refrain from using threatening language that harms regional peace and security and instead of making historical claims, ensure the human rights of religious minorities inside India.
The ministry also emphasized that instead of such statements, New Delhi should take practical steps for a genuine resolution of the Kashmir dispute based on UN Security Council resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people.
These statements come as relations between India and Pakistan have once again soured in recent months due to Kashmir issues and border tensions.
