Kidnap of 227 students and teachers from Catholic school in northwestern Nigeria
The Christian Union of Nigeria said that unidentified gunmen attacked a Catholic school in northwestern Kaduna state on Friday (November 21, 2025) and abducted at least 227 students and teachers.
According to the union, the attackers stormed the school with automatic weapons and, after firing into the air, took hundreds of students and teaching staff with them.
The exact number of people kidnapped has not yet been confirmed, but local sources report that more than 200 children and several teachers have been kidnapped.
This is the second major attack on Nigerian schools in the past week, raising concerns about a return to the wave of mass kidnappings of students for ransom.
As of the time of publication, no official Nigerian government official has responded to the incident, and no group has claimed responsibility for it.
Security forces have announced that a search and rescue operation has begun.
