First shipment of 500 tons of fresh Afghan fruit exported to Central Asia
The first export shipment of Afghan agricultural products was sent on Saturday, December 1, 1404, including 500 tons of apples from Maidan Wardak, pomegranates from Kandahar, and dried strawberries from the northern provinces, worth more than $250,000, through the Hairatan commercial port to Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries.
Haji Harun Al-Rashid Qazi, deputy director of the Balkh Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said at the ceremony to launch this export that this shipment was implemented based on previous memorandums of understanding with Uzbekistan, and that soon the export of fresh meat, vegetables, and other agricultural and industrial products will also begin from the ports of Hairatan and Aqineh.
Maulvi Noorul Hadi, Abu Wadris, Deputy Governor of Balkh Province, considered this event an important step in the growth of regional trade and the country’s self-sufficiency, and emphasized that the leadership of the Islamic Emirate will provide the basis for exporting 80 percent of Afghan products in the future.
Hairatan Port is now open 24 hours a day and serves as a major export route to Central Asia and even Europe.
