Trump plans to meet with New York Mayor-elect Zahran Mamdani
US President Donald Trump announced that he will meet with New York Mayor-elect Zahran Mamdani to find a solution and improve relations.
Trump, who had been attacking Mamdani for months, calling him a “communist,” threatening to fire him, and promising to cut off federal funding to New York City, has now taken a softer tone.
According to Trump, this meeting is being held to work something out and ensure New York’s progress.
The New York mayor-elect, who has been outspoken in his criticism of Trump and described New York as a symbol of Trump’s defeat in his victory speech, said he would contact the White House because their relationship was “vital” for New York City.
Mamdani, a former lawmaker and social media celebrity who is seen as a symbol of resistance to Trump, won the November 4 election by a 9-point margin over Andrew Cuomo.
